Low-Cost High DPS Crossbow Crafting Guide for PoE2 0.4.0
📋 Background
The 0.4.0 Meta Shift
Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.4.0 has arrived, and many popular builds have been nerfed. However, Crossbow builds remain a strong choice for progressing from early mapping up to Tier 15.
This is especially true for the PoE2 Deadeye. If you can craft a high-damage Crossbow early on, your leveling and mapping experience will be incredibly smooth.
This guide will show you how to craft a high-damage Crossbow at a low cost. Our target is a weapon that looks like this:
🛠️ Crafting Materials
Gather these materials before you start. The combination of Omens and Essences is key to this deterministic craft.

🛠️ Step-by-Step Crafting Guide
Follow these steps carefully. You can see the visual workflow here:
Step 1: The Fracture (Locking Crit)
- Buy Crossbow bases that have a natural roll of +4.5% or higher Critical Hit Chance.
- Use a Fracturing Orb.
- Goal: Successfully fracture the Critical Hit Chance. If you fail, buy a new base and try again. This locks the mod so it can't be removed.
Step 2: Clean the Base
Use Orbs of Annulment until the item has only the Fractured Critical Hit Chance modifier.
Step 3: Rolling Physical Damage
Use Chaos Orbs repeatedly on the item.
- Goal: Stop when you hit Tier 1 or Tier 2 Flat Physical Damage OR Tier 1 or Tier 2 % Increased Physical Damage.
- This creates a solid physical damage foundation for the weapon.
Step 4: Adding Lightning Damage (Deterministic)
Now we add the powerful "Extra Lightning Damage" suffix without ruining our prefixes.
- Apply Omen of Dextral Exaltation.
- Use an Exalted Orb. (This guarantees adding a random Suffix).
- Apply Omen of Dextral Crystallisation.
- Use Perfect Essence of Electricity.
- Result: The Essence removes the random Suffix we just added and replaces it with Gain (25–33)% of Damage as Extra Lightning Damage.
Step 5: Preparing for Unveil
We need to set up the item for the final prefix.
- Apply Omen of Sinistral Necromancy.
- Use a Preserved Jawbone.
- Result: This adds a Desecrated (Veiled) Prefix to the item.
Step 6: Completing the Suffixes
Now we roll for the specific attack mods.
- Repeatedly use Perfect Essence of Battle and/or Perfect Essence of Haste.
- Goal: You are looking for a combination that results in +6 Level to all Attack Skills AND Gain Onslaught on Killing Hits.
- Note: This step may require some attempts to hit both desired suffixes together.
Step 7: The Final Unveil
Finally, we reveal the powerful physical prefix.
- Apply Omen of Abyssal Echoes (Allows you to reroll the unveil options once).
- Unveil the Desecrated modifier.
- Goal: Unveil Tier 1 or Tier 2 Physical Damage (whichever one you didn't get in Step 3).
- Contingency: If you do not see the mod you want, apply Omen of Light and use an Orb of Annulment. This safely removes the Desecrated mod, allowing you to go back to Step 5 and try again.
Summary
By following this method, you utilize Fracturing and Omens to bypass the usual RNG of crafting. This yields a high-DPS Crossbow perfect for any poe2 deadeye character to crush the Atlas in Patch 0.4.0.
