Huge Profit in PoE2 Currency Exchange: A Guide to 4 Trading Modes Cover Image

Mastering the 4 Modes of PoE2 Currency Exchange

Welcome, Exile. You already know that flipping currency items in Path of Exile 2 is profitable. With a starting capital of 100 Divine Orbs, a skilled trader can easily earn 50 Divines in a single day.

But did you know there are four distinct modes of currency exchange? Understanding these is the key to unlocking the full potential of the trade system. This guide will reveal these four modes and show you how to profit from them.

The Core Idea: Think Like a Merchant

The basic principle of flipping is simple: buy low, sell high. You act as a merchant, using your capital (usually Exalted Orbs or Divine Orbs) to buy other assets and sell them later for a profit. The difference between the buy and sell price is your profit margin.

In this example, the Faded Crisis Fragment has a buy price of 1.10 Divines and a sell price of 1.24 Divines. That's a profit of 0.14 Divines, or over a 10% return on your investment.

The Four Modes of Currency Exchange Explained

Now, let's dive into the four modes. Choosing the right mode for the right item is what separates the average trader from the truly wealthy.

1. Exalted Buy, Exalted Sell (E buy, E sell)

In this mode, you use Exalted Orbs to buy an item and you sell it for Exalted Orbs. Profit here comes from supply and demand shifts caused by time zone differences. The player bases in China and the USA, for example, play at completely different times. This creates predictable fluctuations in price.

  • Best items: High-volume currency items like Fracturing Orbs, Orbs of Annulment, Chance Orbs, and Chaos Orbs.

2. Divine Buy, Divine Sell (D buy, D sell)

This works on the same principle as the first mode, but you use Divine Orbs as your main currency.

  • Best items: High-value items that are often priced in Divines, such as Omens, Fragments, and Talismans.

3. Exalted Buy, Divine Sell (E buy, D sell)

Here, you buy an item using Exalted Orbs and sell it for Divine Orbs. Profit comes from two main sources:

  • Pricing Lag: The item's price in Exalts hasn't caught up to the current Exalted Orb to Divine Orb exchange rate.
  • Supply Gaps: There is a huge demand for an item, and there are far more sellers accepting Exalted Orbs than there are buyers paying with Divine Orbs.
  • Best items: This changes often, but items like Breachstones or "An Audience with the King" keys are good candidates.

4. Divine Buy, Exalted Sell (D buy, E sell)

This is the direct opposite of the previous mode. This creates an interesting relationship: if "E buy, D sell" is profitable, "D buy, E sell" will cause you to lose money, and vice versa.

The image below perfectly illustrates this. The two profitable modes are direct opposites of the two unprofitable ones.

How to Pick the Right Items

Choosing the right item to flip is the most critical step. A good choice can double your investment; a bad one can leave you stuck with items you can't sell.

  • Short-Term Flips (Hourly): For quick, small-batch flips, use the in-game trade data to spot immediate opportunities. Then, use a tool like our Currency Calculator to quickly calculate the potential profit for each of the four modes.
  • Long-Term Flips (Daily/Weekly): For large, bulk investments, you need to analyze market trends. This requires looking at historical data that you can't find in the game or on the standard trade site.

To analyze long-term trends, you need a specialized tool. Our Currency Trading page provides the historical supply and demand data essential for making informed, long-term investments.
