How to Complete the Abyss Task and Get All Passives

With the arrival of Path of Exile 2 0.5.0, endgame mechanics have changed significantly. One of the most important changes is that each mechanic can now unlock its full passive tree. After investing into these passives, the mechanic can provide much better returns, so completing the unlock process is worthwhile for any content you plan to farm.

This guide focuses on Abyss. It explains how to trigger the Abyss task chain, finish the required objectives, and collect the 35 Abyss passive points.

Overall Flow

The Abyss progression starts after you complete your first Abyss encounter in the Atlas. From there, the questline will guide you toward the Soul Well and then send you through several surrounding objectives before opening the boss encounter.

1. Trigger the Abyss Questline

1. Complete Your First Abyss in the Atlas

Run Atlas maps until you encounter Abyss content. After completing your first Abyss, a map task should trigger.

2. Follow the Guidance to the Soul Well

The quest will point you toward the Soul Well. This becomes the central location for the Abyss task chain.

3. Clear the Northern, Southern, and Western Nodes

After reaching the Soul Well, the quest will guide you to three surrounding nodes: north, south, and west. These objectives are not all identical. Some require boss fights, while others involve clearing Breach-style encounters.

4. Receive the Invitation

Once all three locations are completed, you will receive the Kulemak's Invitation. After getting it, return to the Soul Well to continue the chain.

2. Complete the Abyss Boss Task

1. Return to the Soul Well

Go back to the Soul Well after receiving the invitation. The next step takes place inside the well.

2. Jump Down and Use the Quest Item

Enter the Soul Well and use the quest item as directed. This opens the Abyss boss encounter.

3. Defeat the Boss

Kill the boss to complete the main Abyss task. Each boss kill can charge the related ring once, and the ring can be charged up to three times by fighting the boss again.

Abyss Passives

To obtain Abyss passive points, clear the maps around the Soul Well. The source notes mention that there are a little more than 35 nearby maps connected to this progression, and finishing this surrounding map set is how you work toward the full Abyss passive unlock.

In practice, after the main task is done, keep clearing the Soul Well-related maps until all Abyss passive points are collected.
